What’s new in the policy?

  • Built on principles, our policy aims to inform procedures, decisions and actions in relation to gendered violence at UNSW.
  • While we provide some procedures, more detailed guidance will be available on the UNSW gendered violence website.
  • We’re committed to addressing all forms of gendered violence and prioritising the wellbeing of students and staff impacted whether the incident is related to UNSW or not.

Why gendered violence?

  • Gendered violence encompasses harmful acts based on gender, rooted in inequality and harmful norms.  Examples include domestic and family violence, dating violence, sexual harassment and gendered harassment of LGBTIQ+ students and staff.
  • Our shift to focus on gendered violence aligns with national strategies and reflects community needs expressed during strategy development.

What’s covered and what’s not?

  • Our policy covers principles to response and prevention efforts including education and training and outlines investigative responses.
  • Detailed procedures and processes will be available on our website, covering support-seeking, reporting, and more.

Who contributed?

The Gendered Violence Research Network led policy development, with input from staff, students, and various committees and councils.
