Australian Leadership Awards Scholarships (ALAS) before 2012

ALAS awardees who commenced their studies in Australia prior to 2012 should be managed in accordance with the current AusAID Handbook. However, continuing ALAS
awardees will retain their entitlements and conditions as stated in their Letters of Offer and Acceptance Agreement including the following benefits:

Yearly Study Enrichment Allowance (SEA)

This funding provides financial assistance of up to $2,000 each year to enhance formal studies and might be used for fieldwork, conferences, tutorial assistance or short-term visits to the home country. Financial support is available for overseas fieldwork if:

  • you are undertaking a Masters program or PhD, and
  • your study program is at least 50% research, and
  • your study program requires overseas fieldwork.

Reunion airfares

You are not entitled to reunion airfares as such, however, it might be possible to finance any short-term visit to your home country using part of your SEA.

Fieldwork

You are not entitled to fieldwork airfares as such, however, it might be possible to finance any fieldwork travel cost within Australia or to your home country using part of your SEA. Travel to a third country is permissible only where it has been approved as part of the research study plan.

Leadership Development Program

All ALAS awardees are required to participate in the Leadership Development Program and associated costs are covered by AusAID.
