July Careers Expo: FAQs

Here you can find answers to frequently asked questions about the UNSW July Careers Expo.

What is the July Careers Expo?

The July Careers Expo is an opportunity for students to meet and discuss employment opportunities with employer representatives. Employers will be presenting both internship and graduate opportunities. They will be looking for students who stand out from the crowd so it is important for you to research the organisations and impress them with your questions on the day.

The July Careers Expo is held in two sections (10am - 12pm: Engineering and Tech;1pm - 3pm: Business, all degrees). You are welcome to attend either section, or both. You are free to arrive any time within the opening hours for either section; however, please factor in enough time for yourself, as it can take some time to visit all the employers in which you may be interested.

Who can attend the Expo?

All UNSW students from all faculties can attend, and UNSW graduates are also welcome. However keep in mind that most organisations will require applicants to hold Australian citizenship or permanent residency; check the listings of organisations for eligibility.

Where will the Expo be held?

The July Careers Expo is held on the Kensington campus at The John Niland Scientia Building.

Which organisations are attending the Expo?

Review our listings of organisations regularly to ensure you are up-to-date with the latest participating organisations.

How do I prepare for the Expo?

  1. Research the participating organisations.
  2. Review our preparation tips. Employers prefer to speak to well prepared students. This is also an opportunity to make a positive impression.
  3. We suggest you bring copies of your resume to the Expo. After discussion with employers, you could hand them your resume if they are interested. Be sure to attend one of our resume seminars first!

Are there conditions of entry?

All students will be required to produce their official UNSW student card. Student cards will be scanned by an electronic barcode reader at the entrance.

When we scan your student ID card the UNSW Careers Office is collecting your student number so that we can look up your enrolment and program information in the student database. That information is de-identified and used to conduct statistical analysis of the Careers Expo attendees. Some of the de-identified statistics will then be provided to employers who are considering attending future Careers Expos.

If you do not want your personal information to be collected and used, you may show your student ID card and enter the Careers Expo without it being scanned.

Students will be required to carry their student card (or alternative proof of identity) at the Expo, and show it upon demand to any UNSW staff member.

If you are a UNSW graduate you will need proof that you were a student (preferably your student card).

The University reserves the right to refuse entry, or revoke the invitation of any student at the Expo for any reason.

I am not a UNSW student. Can I attend?

If you are from a Sydney metropolitan university, then your careers service probably runs its own Careers Expo. You are urged to attend that event instead of ours. Organisations attending the UNSW Careers Expo expect to speak to UNSW students.

If you are from a regional University that does not run a Careers Expo, please contact us about eligibility to attend.

I can't attend on that day. Will the Expo be held on another day?

The July Careers Expo is held only once a year.

The dates for each year's Expo are published well in advance, and are coordinated to avoid clashes with other UNSW events as well as other university Careers Expos and religious holidays.

You are advised to make necessary arrangements to attend if you think that it is important to speak to these organisations.
