Student Ambassador, The Confucius Institute

Student Ambassador, The Confucius Institute

The Confucius Institute at UNSW is Australia’s leading organisation for promoting Chinese language and training senior executives to compete and succeed in China. One of their principle goals is to promote Chinese culture to undergraduate students and members of the wider Sydney community.

Chinese Corner, a weekly event held on campus Tuesdays from 1-2pm in Morven Brown Room 212, provides UNSW students with valuable exposure to native Chinese speakers and opportunities to practice Chinese in a friendly and welcoming environment. There is a focus each week on a particular aspect of Chinese culture, such as Chinese calligraphy, cuisine, and music, with students able to participate in interactive hands-on activities.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and run a minimum of 4 Chinese Corner sessions per semester
  • Design each Chinese Corner’s poster and session plan
  • Assist in coordinating other cultural events during semester
  • Assist non-Chinese speakers in learning the Chinese language and understanding Chinese culture
  • Develop leadership skills, communication skills, teamwork skills and organisational skills
  • Contribute 20 hours of work at the Confucius Institute (in the office or at events)

New opportunity for bilingual UNSW students

Our student ambassador positions are now open to both local and international students. In addition to the 5 ambassador positions open to native Chinese speakers, there are 5 additional openings for students who can express themselves in basic-level Mandarin and have a keen interest in Chinese culture.
