About the Program

The program’s primary objective is to support the development of graduate capabilities of students to help transform them into rigorous scholars, entrepreneurial leaders, lifelong learning professionals, and global citizens. The program will provide opportunities for students to engage in meaningful industry engagement opportunities (similar to Work Integrated Learning) while undertaking their studies. The program focuses on building learning communities that equip UNSW graduates with the skills to thrive in employment.

Alumni Night

The program uses a three tier structure including; Industry workshops; an innovative project, and accelerated access to direct contact with industry (volunteering, employment, and internships).

Go beyond classroom learning

Students participate in industry workshops facilitated by successful and engaging industry leaders. The purpose of the workshops is to gain a clear understanding of an individual’s experience within their career, and to take away key lessons of success, failures, processes and learning experiences. Countless industry partners including EY, PwC, QBE, ResMed and more educate our students on their careers. Students not only undertake workshops in regard to interpersonal skill building but are also educated on newest technologies disrupting the market.

Workshops with AWS, IBM, KPMG and UNSW IT showcase the incredible technologies disrupting today’s market. Our Heroes have hands-on experiences using machine learning, artificial intelligence, big data analysis, and virtual reality technologies.

Use UNSW as your innovation playground

Students are grouped together in diverse teams with the goal of creating and pitching an innovative service improvement. Students take inspiration and guidance from UNSW’s 2025 strategy as they develop their idea. Teams will work alongside mentors from UNSW professional staff and industry sponsors, gaining strategic insight and evaluation of their innovative project.

Give back to the University community

The UNSW Hero Program regularly communicates across the UNSW campus to identify volunteering experiences for Heroes. A common opportunity is to enter UNSW IT as volunteer IT staff, assisting the IT enrolment process of new students into the university. These opportunities are not guaranteed and are broadcast to participating Heroes as availability arises.
