This October, we are marking Mental Health Month with lots of online and on-campus events to help you with the tough stuff! Check out the fun and free events below and make your mental health your priority this October. Mental Health Month is a co-created event brought to you by Health Promotions Unit, Arc, and Safety & Wellbeing. Healthcare in Oz
Thursday 1 October 10-11:30am: Do you know the difference between a counsellor and a psychologist or a health centre and a hospital? Join this virtual health services tour where you will meet health professionals from UNSW and Prince of Wales Hospital and find out about the services they offer.
OneStep Wellness Walking Group
Every Thursday throughout T3 8-9am: One Step is all about creating opportunities for exercise, fresh air and human connection because they are all so important for our mental health and wellbeing!
Friday 2 October 7:30-9am: Get ready to FREE THE FUNK with Arc Wellness and create awareness about mental health with the OneWave simple recipe of saltwater therapy, surfing and fluro. Join us at Coogee Beach.
Arc Health & Fitness Week
Throughout Monday 5 October to Friday 9 October: Arc sport have got heaps of activities and webinars in store on the importance of eating well, staying active and looking after your mental health.
Tuesday 6 October 2-3pm: Do you put your success down to luck? Believe it or not Imposter Syndrome can impact everyone, from students starting out to Academics at the top of their field. Join this session to hear those experiences and learn techniques to quiet that voice in your head.
Tea & Talk
Every Wednesday 12-1pm: Tea & Talk is our chance for us to chat to you and guests in the know about the tough stuff, and to spill the tea on the hype around wellness. We will be answering all of your questions about what’s going on up top – all with a cup of tea in hand.
Start the Conversation: Men's Mental Health
Thursday 8 October 3-4pm: Join Jack Jones from The Banksia Project for a candid chat about Men’s Mental Health and find out what happens at their Growth Rooms ahead of our UNSW launch.
Prepare for self-care
Thursday 15 October 11-11.30am: This session of the First Year | Ask Us Anything series focuses on all things self-care. Learn about mental health, and gain resilience skills to set yourself up for success at university.
Good Deed Days | A week of volunteering
Throughout Monday 19 October to Friday 23 October: Join the Volunteer Army get outside and give back to our environment with some Bushcare with Randwick Council.
Worried about anxiety?
Monday 19 October 12pm: Dr Alanya Drummond shares her experience of living with anxiety, the impacts of worrying too much and ways that worry can be managed.
Food. Mood. Free Choice?
Wednesday 21 October 11am-12pm: We know that diet plays a role in our physical health, but is there a connection with our mood and overall well-being? Do we really have free choice over our food choices in Australia? Join this event to find out.
Student Minds meets the Anxious Shrink
Thursday 22 October 5pm: Join us in this live and interactive session with Dr Mark where we answer your burning questions about mental health and the student experience.
Make your own soap
Friday 23 October 2pm: For School of Chemistry | Making soap is a great way to get creative and unwind. We will do it in a relaxed, supportive environment where you can catch up with other colleagues and students in the school.
A start to having a heart-to-heart
Monday 26 to Friday 30 October: Covering all aspects of wellbeing and the student experience, this student created video series will inspire you to prioritise your own mental health and connect to those around you.
Self-care for women in Science
Monday 26th October 4–4:45pm: Are you a Woman in Science? Join this open and honest chat about the challenges faced by Women in Science and how this impacts our wellbeing. Share strategies to get the balance right and prioritise our mental health.
Wednesday 28 October 1-2pm: The online launch of ‘Untold Stories’, a new project led by Health Promotions and Student Wellbeing teams. Speakers share their personal stories of overcoming adversity and challenges including those relating to mental health, gender identity, disability and culture.
You can’t ask that!
Thursday 29 October 5pm: Candid and heartfelt, 'You Can't Ask That' will cut through the mystery and awkwardness to provide watchers the chance to expand their thinking of what mental health care can look like within different cultures.
Mental Health Month in Physics
Throughout October: The School of Physics will be hosting a range of activities for students throughout October for Mental Health Month. Stay tuned for a calendar of events.
Your Mind & Art
Throughout October: Create an artwork to reflect your experiences as an international student. Include your story in a gallery and see other people’s art!
Anxiety Management Skills
Throughout October: Weekly online workshops over 4 weeks providing skills to help you cope with common anxiety-inducing situations.
