Create a Quicklink and place it on a page

NOTE: You can also use existing pages as quicklinks by entering their page title in the page's quicklink field.

A quicklink (or image tile) is an item of content that consists of an image and text, which are both linked to the same page, and a small amount of descriptive text. A quicklink can link to another web page on the Current Student website, or to an external web page.

Once you have created a quicklink, you can place it on any page on the Current Student website from which users are likely to need to access the linked page.

You can fit three quicklinks across a Current Student web page:

Quicklinks can be added to any toggled page section. In the example above, three quicklinks display at the bottom of a page. The heading and introductory text were entered in the Intro text box of a toggled page section. The section has been set to display as expanded when the page loads.

Create the image for your quicklink

The image dimensions for quicklinks are:

  • Width 900 pixels
  • Height 600 pixels

If you upload an image with different dimensions, it will be automatically resized to fit.

Don't compress any image you upload. The Drupal content management system will automatically apply image compression.

Create the quicklink

  1. Log in to the Current Student user website.
  2. Click Add content at the upper left of the page.
  3. On the Add content page select Quicklinks.
  4. On the Create Quicklink page, enter a Title - this will constitute the link text below the image.
  5. Will this quicklink link to an internal or an external address? (Note: The target page is not the page where the quicklink will display.)
    • If internal, enter a Page to link to. Begin entering the page title and the system will suggest a list of possible targets. Select the correct one.
    • If external, paste the full URL into the Link field.
  1. Under Image, click Browse/Choose file.
  2. In the File Upload window, browse for the image and open it. The file's address displays in the Image field.
  3. Click Upload. The image uploads, and a thumbnail, a linked filename and file details display.
  4. Add a small amount of text in the Body text box as required - this text will display below the text link.
  5. Select the Administrative Group for the quicklink.
  6. Click Save. The quicklink target page displays.
  7. Click My Workbench at the top left of the page.
  8. On the workbench page, under My Edits, click edit in the quicklink's ACTIONS column.
  9. On the Edit Quicklink page, note the node number in the URL.
  10. At the bottom of the page, under Moderation state, select Published. Click Save to publish the quicklink. This makes it available for use on Current Student website pages.

Create the page where the quicklink will display

If necessary, create the page on which the quicklink is to display.

Embed the quicklink in the page

  1. Open the Edit Page for the page where you want the quicklink to display. Locate the 'QUICKLINKS' section or create a new toggled page section where you want to insert the quicklink.
  2. If you want the quicklink to display without the user having to expand the toggled section, select the Is expanded check box.
  3. Expand the QUICKLINKS section.
  4. Enter the title of the quicklink you have created. The system will suggest a list of quicklinks containing the text you type. Select the correct quicklink from the list. (If your new quicklink doesn't display in the list, check that you published it.)
  5. To insert more than one quicklink, click Add another item to display another quicklink field and repeat step 4.
  6. Click Save. Check that the new quicklink displays correctly. If you make changes to the quicklink, remember to publish those changes so that they display wherever the quicklink is inserted.

NOTE: Because Quicklinks are embedded within pages, the page itself also needs to be republished to display the new Quicklink on the public facing (non-logged in page). By republishing the page the new Quicklink is displayed. Alternatively the websites nightly cron update automatically refreshes the cache.
