Are you a daily lens wearer? Would you like to try new lens cases for 2 months?

Published: 18 September 2017

The School of Optometry and Vision Science at the University of New South Wales is seeking 51 soft contact lens wearers, to use the silver impregnated lens cases and non-silver lens case (each for one month) along with a recommended multipurpose disinfecting solution. Participants will be allowed to use their existing lens brand.

There will be total 3 visits within 2 months (baseline, 1st month and 2nd months). Routine assessment of contact lens fit and anterior eye health will be conducted at each visit and lens cases will be collected for microbial analysis at the 1st and 2nd month visits. At the end of 1st and 2nd month visits participants will be requested to complete a questionnaire relating to their contact lens use and we expect this activity will take approximately 20-30 minutes to complete.

The contact lens case and solution will be provided free of charge during the study and at the end of 3rd study visit when the last lens case will be collected a replacement contact lens case will be provided. Participants will be provided with two $10 Coles gift vouchers on 2nd and 3rd visits to compensate for their costs incurred in attending the study visits.

Would the research project be a good fit for me?

The study might be a good fit for you if you are a daily contact lens wearer and are willing to use the silver coated and non-silver barrel shaped lens cases along with the provided disinfecting solution for up to 2 months.

What would happen if I took part in the research project?

If you decide to take part you would use the silver impregnated lens cases and non-silver lens case (each for one month) along with a recommended multipurpose disinfecting solution. Routine assessment of your contact lens fit and anterior eye health will be conducted at each visit (baseline, 1 and 2 months), and lens cases will be collected for microbial analysis at the 1 and 2 month visits. At the end of 1st and 2nd month visits you will be required to complete a questionnaire relating to your contact lens use and we expect this activity will take approximately 20-30 min to complete.

Will I be paid to take part in the research project?

You may be reimbursed for any reasonable travel, parking, meals and other expenses associated with the research project visits. At the end of 3rd visit when the last lens will be collected a replacement CL case will be provided. Participants will be provided with a $10 voucher on 2nd and 3rd visits to compensate for their costs incurred in attending the study visits.
