Sydney Youth Advisory Council 2018 - Call for Nominations

The Sydney Youth Advisory Council is a group of 10-12 high achievers with a wide range of backgrounds and experiences who meet regularly with the Consul General to discuss pertinent issues and share their thoughts on the future of U.S. – Australia relations.
The primary goals of the Council are:

  • To advise the Consul General on next gen issues (e.g., what do Australian youth care about and why?);
  • To suggest effective modes of youth outreach for the Consulate; and
  • To participate in Consulate events as representatives of the Council.


SYAC are currently taking applications to join the 2018 Council. To apply, please send:

  • Your CV (no more than two pages);
  • A cover letter (up to 500 words) addressing the following two questions:
    1. What would you contribute to the Sydney Youth Advisory Council in 2018?
    2. What would you tell the Consul General is on the minds of Australian youth today?

Applicants must be: between 18-25 of age, an Australian citizen, and able to commit to serve on the Council for one year by attending quarterly meetings and other events.

Applications close February 28, 2018. All candidates will be notified of our decision by March 21, 2018 and must be available to attend the first meeting at lunchtime on March 29, 2018.

All programs involve some degree of risk to participants. If you choose to source a provider on your own, please remember to do some research on them first and ensure that they are a legitimate organisation and that the product they offer will definitely meet your requirements. Students are therefore advised to undertake their own risk assessment before departure and any participation in these programs is at their own risk.
