Scam Warning

Published:

There’s a scam currently targeting international students in Australia via WeChat. The scam involves victims being sent fake correspondence appearing to be from UNSW threatening expulsion from the University if they do not pay a large sum of money.

A copy of this fake letter can be viewed here. Be aware of scams such as these and please remember to contact the International Student Experience Unit (ISEU) to report them as well as seek support.

Other Scams

Other scams involve you lending money to people who never pay back, or promising you discounts or better exchange rates if you pay for things (like university fees) through them.

Students are strongly advised not to lend money to anyone they don't know, or let people you don’t know pay for things for you.
