U21 Competition - Images of Hope

U21 Competition - Images of Hope

Published: 22 March 2021

COVID-19 has taught us much about how individuals and communities cope and take care of themselves and others during major crises. People have always found ways to reach out and inspire others during difficult times; U21 wants to collect and share images from U21 students and staff of the affirmation, kindness and optimism that they have seen and/or experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic. These images will be brought together in an exhibition and displayed during the U21 AGM and Annual Network Meeting in May 2021.

U21 invites staff and students in the network to submit photographs, or images of a piece of creative artwork, that represent their own experiences of positivity and endurance during the pandemic, using the following headings as a guide:

The images submitted should be the entrant’s original work. Entries will be considered for inclusion in the U21 Images of Hope exhibition in May 2021; judging for four overall prize winners will take place at this time.

Who can apply?

Any registered student or staff member in a U21 university can submit one image. Students must give details of their course and year of study as part of the application. By submitting the image, you give full permission for U21 to use the image in its publications/communications in the future.

What can be submitted?

One image per person can be submitted, under one or more of the four headings above; they must be the original work of the entrant. The image can be accompanied by a short, written narrative (maximum of 280 characters). See below for details of how to submit an image.

When is the closing date?

All images must be submitted by Monday 29 March 2021.

What are the prizes?

1st prize: US$200

Runners Up (Two prizes): US$100 (each)

Peoples’ Choice Award: US$100

Where will the images be exhibited?

All submitted images will be considered for an online exhibition during the U21 AGM and Annual Network Meeting for U21 member universities in May 2021. They will also be showcased more widely on the U21 website.

When will the winners be announced?

A judging panel drawn from across the U21 network will pick the overall winner and the two runners up. A People’s Choice Award will be decided by online voting across the network. The winners will be announced in May 2021.
