Equitable Learning Services (ELS) regularly employs postgraduate and HDR students to work 1-on-1 with students who are registered with ELS for specific disabilities or health conditions that impact their ability towards certain general academic skills.
Individual students are assigned a tutor with whom they work collaboratively and sensitively to support study skills development (they do not help with specific content, subject matter, or topics).
Whilst students’ conditions are not disclosed to the tutor, they can include disabilities that impact a student’s cognitive functioning or their organisational skills.
This support service is in line with legislation that requires all students with disabilities be given appropriate support and ‘reasonable adjustments’.
The Program contributes to increased participation and success in education and services that ensure equity, diversity, and inclusion for students, aligned with the UNSW 2025 Strategy to enhance Educational Excellence and the Student Experience.
The Study Skills Support Tutor (SSST) reports to the Team Lead Equitable Learning Services and works under the guidance of ELS. Tutors normally meet with a student for a maximum of 2 hours per week.
