Safety and Security

Safety and Security

We want your time at UNSW to be a rewarding and safe educational experience. But with tens of thousands of students on campus, looking after each and every individual can be tough. So we place a big emphasis on providing resources and services that help you do your bit and take responsibility for your own safety and wellbeing.

Safety programs for international students

Student Development International runs three safety workshops which are highly recommended for international students called: Beach Safety, Stay Safe On and Off Campus and Women’s Health and Safety Workshop.

Beach safety

Come along and meet professional Surf Life Savers and hear them talk about their passion for the water and find out everything you'll need to know about keeping safe at the beach and in the ocean in Australia. This workshop will is a fun way to learn how to make the most of Australia’s beautiful coastline. The Beach Safety talk will be conducted immediately after the Coogee to Bondi Coastal Walk.

Stay safe on and off Campus

This workshop is a fun way to find out about the services available for you to make the most of your time at university and in Australia. This is a joint presentation held during Step Up by UNSW Security and NSW Police about safety and security for students on and off campus.

Women's health and safety workshop

At the start of each semester, SDI runs a workshop that is designed for women by women that provides advice and information regarding personal safety, health issues affecting women, life saving practices/techniques for better health and well-being and the opportunity to share experiences, discuss and ask questions in an informal and friendly setting over morning tea. Facilitated by a female International Student Adviser, a female GP from UNSW Health Services and a female constable from the Maroubra Police Station, this is an opportunity for women to get together and make friends whilst gaining information that has the potential to save lives!
