Sleep Smart

Sleep Smart

The Sleep Smart program is a university wide campaign that focuses on delivering key ‘positive’ messages about sleep and sleep patterns. The aim is to raise the awareness of the UNSW Community about the importance of sleep and the impact, on study and wellbeing, of not getting enough! Much research has been carried out that highlights the benefits of getting sufficient sleep. These include benefits such as better mental wellbeing, improved physical health and increased performance on activities such as learning, sports, driving etc.

SleepSmart Ambassadors utilise a variety of communication strategies and delivery methods to deliver appropriate and targeted messages to students about the benefits of healthy sleep routines. We also have a program which aims to educate first year students on the benefits of sleep.

We are encouraging all UNSW students and staff to commit to a smarter sleep strategy. This means:

  • A commitment to being in bed with lights out by 10.00pm at least one evening a week
  • Not having caffeine after 3.00pm
  • Attempting to have between 7 and 9 hours sleep on a regular basis
