Formula SAE is an international university design competition focused on the design, manufacturing, and testing of a small formula style open-wheel race car. Over 500 teams from around the world compete in at least one of the eight competitions which are held in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Brazil, Australia, and Japan. Formula SAE encourages students to excel in research, management, design, development, testing, business and marketing. Although engineering is the main focus, business, science, arts and IT students are able to contribute to the inner workings of the team.
Academy Racing is a university based project run by students with the assistance of UNSW Canberra and the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) staff and sponsors. The team is primarily comprised of Officer Cadets and Midshipman who are training to become the officers of the future in the Australian Defence Force (ADF). The key objective of Academy Racing is to provide real world experiences to the Midshipman and Officer Cadets so that members are able to apply them to their chosen degrees by designing, building and marketing a working race car.
Responsibilities
- The team is divided into six groups: Suspension, Drivetrain, Engine, Chassis, Electrical, and Business. A group leader heads each group and senior members head subgroups within each category.

- The team is comprised of undergraduates from all degree streams along with the assistance of postgraduate students.
- The main objective is to educate our team members and together the students learn teamwork, communication skills, and project management in addition to the engineering skills gained.
