Students working on a project for the Immigration Advice and Rights Centre (IARC) took home the prize at the shark tank presentation evening for the course Designing Technology Solutions for Access to Justice. The team, comprising Samuel Pryde, Jason Dong, Checker McCarthy, Tina Sharma and Nicholas Parker, built a chatbot to advise people on their eligibility for Australian citizenship.
The judges were impressed with all of the teams who built and pitched a variety of tools. One, which you may see soon, is a tool providing education and information on how UNSW’s plagiarism policy applies in particular scenarios. The other two provide advice on copyright (for the Arts Law Centre of Australia) and assistance for social housing tenants requesting repairs (for Redfern Legal Centre).
Thanks to the generosity of Gilbert + Tobin (our course sponsor, who also pay for software licences) and the Michael Crouch Innovation Centre, the winning team will receive prizes worth $750.
