International Day Against Contract Cheating: Don’t fall for the trap!

Published:

What is contract cheating?

Contract cheating is when you get someone else to do your uni work for you, whether it’s an essay, a quiz or even an exam. This can involve paying a service to do it, asking a friend for help or using a random person you found online. In short, it’s submitting someone else’s work as your own. And yeah, it’s a big deal.

No matter how it happens, contract cheating violates the UNSW Code of Conduct and Values and the trust that UNSW and your fellow students put in you. Plus, it’s cheating, plain and simple.

Watch out for those shady DMs and emails

We’ve all been there – logging onto WeChat, WhatsApp or Facebook or checking emails, and suddenly, you get a random message offering “assignment help” or “guaranteed HDs”. These companies also advertise on various social media platforms such as YouTube and Instagram. Sounds too good to be true, right? These sketchy services target stressed students, offering to write your essays or take your exams for you. But once you engage with them, you’re putting your whole academic and professional future at risk.

These companies are all about making money, and they don’t care about your success. Worse, they might even use your info to blackmail you later. So, if you see one of these messages, block and report them.

Keep your zID to yourself

Here’s a big one – don’t share your UNSW zID or passwords with anyone, even friends and family. This is a serious breach of the UNSW Code of Conduct and Values. Scammers will often ask for these details to “help” you, but giving them access is like handing over the keys to all your personal info, assignments and grades, and once it’s out there, who knows what they’ll do with it.

If anyone asks for your zID or login details, it’s a red flag. Stay safe, don’t share and report any suspicious activity to UNSW right away at [email protected].

The consequences you really want to avoid

So, what happens if you get caught cheating or sharing your login details with someone else? At UNSW, the penalties for contract cheating and sharing your login details are serious. We’re talking everything from failing an assignment to getting suspended or even permanently excluded from uni. And that black mark stays on your record, which can mess with your future job prospects, visa applications and study opportunities.

Cheating doesn’t just affect you in the moment – it can hurt your reputation and devalue the hard work you’ve put into your degree. Employers want ethical graduates who actually know their stuff, so don’t take shortcuts – it will cost you in the long run and it’s not worth the risk.
