About the GERRIC Program

The GERRIC Student Programs are three-day school holiday programs organised by UNSW Sydney for gifted children in primary and secondary years. As a volunteer Student Leader, you will assist either in person or online in a class of 12-25 students.

These classes are led by experienced primary or secondary teachers and UNSW academics. We will provide you with training in best practices for working with gifted and talented students, as well as twice-exceptional students.

As a Gifted Education Student Leader, your role includes:

  • Providing operational and administrative support during the event: online support, information management, distributing documents, event running. 

  • Contributing to safe running of event: signing in /out, supervision, pastoral care.  

  • Online support: academic support, wellbeing support, assisting the facilitator with class activities using knowledge/experience in working with gifted students.

Junior Scientia: Years 3 – 6  

  

Training:   

  • Tuesday, January 16 (2 hours)  

Program dates:  

  • January 17, 18 & 19 (8:00am – 4:00pm)  

  • Attend training 1 day prior  

  • Attend 3-days of face-to-face program  

  • Bring along laptop, notebook and dress in smart casual  

Scientia Challenge: Years 7 – 10   

  

Training:   

  • Tuesday, January 9 (2 hours)  

Program dates:  

  • January 10, 11 & 12 (8am – 4pm)  

  • Attend training 1 day prior  

  • Attend 3-days of face-to-face program  

  • Bring along laptop, notebook and dress in smart casual  

Online Sessions: Years 5 - 10  

  

Training:   

  • Friday, January 5 (2 hours)  

Program dates:  

  • Monday 8 January & Monday 15 January (9am – 4pm)  

  • Attend training 1 day prior  

  • Attend 3-days of face-to-face program  

  • Bring along laptop, notebook and dress in smart casual
