Elective opportunity | Design Fieldwork on Country

Looking for a hands-on elective? Enrol in Design Fieldwork on Country (DDES1000) and undertake an intensive studio residency. 

DDES1000 is an object design focused elective offering you the opportunity to learn on Country. The residency will take place at Bundanon Art Museum on Dharawal/Yuin Country over five days in September. 

What's included?

The residency is fully catered and you'll stay in lodge accommodation in building designed by Glenn Murcutt.

What happens during the residency?

DDES1000 is a field research course that will give you the tools to work with Country. You'll immerse yourself in the beautiful, culturally significant site, engaging in learning activities with elders, artists and historians from the Dharawal/Yuin community. You'll also attend site visits and workshops to facilitate connections with natural and built local ecosystems.

You'll learn the skills of place-based design, employing observation, secondary research, best practice collaboration theory and method, and best practice Indigenous design theory and methods to engage respectfully with Country and the relationality of human, non-human and more-than-human. You will learn to work respectfully with narratives and ideas resulting from this research, gaining an understanding of the protocols of designing with Country.

Am I eligible?

The course is open to all students as an elective, however numbers are limited.

$250 plus course fees. This opportunity is subsidised by UNSW ADA.
