Each course in Moodle has a section that contains an Announcements and Forums link.
The Announcements forum allows lecturers to post announcements that are emailed to students enrolled in the course. Students cannot post in these forums.
The Forum allows lecturers to create a space for students to engage in online discussions and collaborate with one another.
Announcements Forum
Every Moodle course contains an Announcements forum. It is important to access it to find important information and updates that your course conveners has shared with students. When the convenor makes a post in the Announcements forum, students get notified by email. Email subscription settings can be adjusted in your profile preferences.

The Announcements forum is generally accessible via the Quick Links section at the top of your course.

Forum
Your course might contain several different forums. They may range from general forums for discussion to graded forums that are treated as assessments. Your course convener should explain this in the forum description.
Access Forum
A Forum activity can be placed anywhere within a course. The easiest way to access all forums is through the Announcements and Forums link in the Quick Links section at the top of the course.

Make a Post in a Forum
Students can only post in forums that allow student participation. In a forum, you can not only post text but also upload images or videos if required by the task.

Forum Subscription Preferences
When your Moodle account is created, it gets assigned default settings for forum subscription. This means that you will receive emails when a forum posts are made either by your convenor or your peers. There is a setting that allows you to adjust how often you receive these notifications.

In your profile preferences, you can change the forum subscription settings, as well as a few other things.
